Electrical Systems

The Wendy Dawn has 2 Battery Banks:  One for the Starter and One for Everything Else.

The Starting Bank is Very Simple - One large 8D battery for the Starter with a 60 amp alternator and breaker, with the engine guages hooked up as well.

This is the lifeline of the vessel - whatever else is happening with the other electrical systems this one has only one job:  Be Fully Charged and Start the Engine!

The House Battery System has Four 6-Volt Batteries connected in a combination of series and parallel to form Two 12-Volt Batteries. This bank is charged by a 150 amp alternator giving this boat a good strong reliable Battery System to run the lights, pumps, appliances and navigation electronics.

There is also a Samlex 2000w Inverter to convert 12 volt power to 120 volts for running the fridge, freezer, TV, and 120 volt plugs.

This system was installed in 2015 with all new Battery Cables, Wiring, and Fuse Boxes.

Shore Power and Battery Charger:

For Shore Power there is a Smart Plug Attachment on the Vessel for a 75' cord with a 20 Amp Plug. This is good for running the 120 volt system as well as the Battery Charger keeping the system in top shape.   The Battery Charger keeps both banks charged and has a built in monitor to let you know if there is a problem.

When Anchoring Out there is a Yamaha Inverter Series Portable Generator which can be plugged into the 120 volt system to run the appliances and battery charger while the main engine is turned off.  The inverter is fine for shorter periods of time but you don't in good practise want to drain the batteries below 50% capacity.
